Magic the Gathering Club (10/19)
We will meet today in room 203 from 3 to 4.
If you are interested in joining the Competitive cheer team 2018-2019 our first practice will be held Monday the 22nd. Practice time is 5pm-7pm, practice area will be announced at a later time. Wear practice attire: shorts or leggings, tshirt, tennis shoes, and hair up!! Please make sure to have updated sports physical on file! 6th-8th graders are welcome!
Last night the Division I Girls Basketball lost both games against the Lady Huskies of Jefferson 38-18 and 30-16. As a team the Lady Vikings had 38 rebounds, 18 steals, 13 assists and 9 blocked shots. Practice today will be from 3:00-4:30.
Last night the Division II girls' basketball split two games against Jefferson. The Green team battled all game but came up short 20-25. Leading the scoring for the Vikings was Madison Page and Payton Palmer with 5 points a piece. Ava Kroll added 3 points and 13 rebounds. The White team defeated the Huskys 22-21 on a game winning shot from Ava Prather with 18 seconds left. Ava led the team with 11 points and 10 steals. Dalton DeBoer contributed 7 points amd 7 steals while Grace Schloop added 8 rebounds. The Vikings next game is Monday, away at Mount Pleasant.
Northeast Pom Winter/Competition season tryouts start next Monday the 22nd. We will be learning a short routine Monday and Wednesday from 3:15-5:15 and on Friday from 3-4:30 will be tryouts.
T-shirt Design Contest (M,W, F)
Northeast students, we are hosting a Northeast t-shirt design contest. All students have the option to design a T-shirt for northeast. It must have only two colors on the design and please no arm or back designs. Entries are due TODAY October 19th to Ms Valley in room 256.
Viking Leadership/Student Council
Our next Viking Leadership/Student Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 24 at 7:30 am in room 158. Anyone interested in student leadership is welcome to attend. We will discuss the upcoming school party and judge the spirit wear entries.
Boys’ Basketball tryouts
Attention all 7th and 8th-grade boys interested in trying out for the Northeast Boys Basketball Team:
Boys basketball tryouts will be held beginning October 29th and run through November 2nd. Sign-ups will take place next week on Wednesday and Thursday during lunch. All boys interested must have a current physical on file for this school year.

Join us on Fridays in Room 274 for music, friendship, and fun as we explore the world of musicals. This week’s focus: Newsies! All are welcome; no prior knowledge needed. Seize the day! See you after school Friday.
NMS Culture Club (10/19)
After school today from 3:00-3:45 in room 273, Mr. and Mrs. Shannon will give a special presentation on the Nepal Project. The NMS Culture Club hopes you will join us.
Also, Monday night from 6-7:30 at Jefferson Middle School you can have a taste of Nepal. To launch this year’s Nepal Project fundraiser, there will be Nepali food, Rudraksha bead bracelet making, things for sale, henna tattoos, Nepal students writing kids names in Nepali, several presentations about Nepal and many other things! Be a global citizen and help support this cause.
Lunchtime Popcorn Day
There will be popcorn sales during all lunch hours this Friday, October 19. Cost is $.50 per bag.
Wishes for Wirth (10/15-10/19)
There will be a benefit meal held on Sunday, October 21st from 12:00 - 5:00 at the American Legion 165 in Midland. (5111 HEdgewood Drive). There will be Food, Drink, a DJ, silent auction, football board, 50/50 raffle, bake sale and much more. There is no fee but donations will be accepted to benefit the Wirth family.
Girls Swim (M,W, F)
For all girls that are interested in swim, there will be a signup sheet in the office. You need a physical turned in before the season that starts on October 29th. Today at lunch, Coach Merchant or Mr. Seybert will have swim information sheets available. Be sure to see one of them during lunch if you are interested.

Calling all NE Music Families

Otis Spunkmeyer Fundraiser
One of our biggest fundraisers of the year starts this week! Otis Spunkmeyer is a catalog based fundraising program in which students sell items in the catalog, collect money at the time of order, turn in orders, and have the ability to win prizes based on sales. And…Northeast receives 42% of the profits! Complete details will be coming home with your student(s) on Wednesday! Student incentives include...
• All Students: If as a school we can raise at least $20,000 in orders (NE earns $8,400), everyone will have a Northeast No Homework Night in December!
• Any student selling 2 or more items will be entered into a gift card drawing (multiple students will be selected).
• Any student selling 5 or more items will also be entered into a drawing for a $25 Visa Gift Card (one winner per grade).
• Any student selling over $400 in orders will be treated to a pizza party during lunch with 4 friends of their choosing.
• The grade that raises the most money will earn THREE No Homework nights!
• Any classroom that achieves 100% participation (at least one order sold per person in class) will enjoy a FREE Slurpee Walk with Mr. DeBoer!
Community Christmas Closet
Community Christmas Closet is an organization that provides clothes for children of low income families in Midland County. The forms are available in the office and must be returned by October 22.

Attention Parents of current 7th grade student
Michigan law requires that all students be immunized against vaccine preventable diseases to attend Northeast Middle School. When a student enters 7th grade, the Immunization requirements increase. Please be sure your student is up-to-date. The deadline for immunizations is November 1st, but appointments with the Health Department become increasingly difficult to secure as the deadline approaches. Immunization requirements for 7th graders are:
Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (DTP, DTaP, Tdap)
4 doses D and T or
3 doses Td if 1st dose given at or after 1 year of age
1 dose Tdap at 11 years of age or older upon entry into 7th grade or higher+
3 doses if dose 3 was given at or after 4 years of age
Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)*
2 doses at or after 12 months of age
Meningococcal Conjugate (MenACWY)
1 dose at 11 years of age or older upon entry into 7th grade or higher+
2 doses at or after 12 months of age or+
Current lab immunity or
History of varicella disease
*If the child has not received these vaccines, documented immunity is required.
+Typical vaccines needed by 7th grade students
NOTE: Any parent/guardian who wants to claim a non medical waiver will need to receive education regarding the benefits of vaccination and the risks of disease from a county health department before obtaining the certified non-medical waiver form through the Local Health Department. The new rule requires the use of the State of Michigan non medical waiver form dated January 1, 2017.
